Spiti Valley Tour Package – 5 Nights / 6 Days Trip

Get ready, have your breakfast and our Spiti Valley tour starts now by road from Manali. We will pass through the Atal Tunnel constructed recently, cross the majestic barren landscape called brown badland, and reach Chattru and Batal. 

Now we are at 14931 feet from sea level and will feel the real chillness while crossing the Kunzum Pass and will descend to the Losar Village, the first village in Spiti Valley. For the first time, you will feel the chill, and it is a pleasant experience. You can remain prepared for this with your woolen garments and interact with your family members to find out how they feel at this high altitude and take measures to protect them from the cold wind.

Now we will need a cup of hot tea at Losar Village and continue our journey through the vast landscapes to reach Kaza. In Kaza, we will spend the night in a homely hotel. Have a sound sleep to continue our journey tomorrow.

On the second day of the Spicy Valley Tour, we continue to travel through the highest regions of the world where nobody dares to live.

We now arrive at Komik, the highest village in Asia, also known as the ‘eye of a snow cock’ and lying at 14806 feet. You will be surprised that the total population of this village is only 84, who brave the rough weather to survive in the tiny village which is aloof from the world during the significant part of the year. 

We cannot say whether these people came down to visit our cities because they are so simple and self-sufficient and prefer to remain there. This village is surrounded by mountain peaks covered with snow and brown landscape. You will see Tibetan wolf, red fox, blue sheep, snow cock, hare, Himalayan griffin and rock pigeon.

From there, we move to Hikkim to see the world’s highest post office. We can even meet the staff in the post office, interact with them and drop a letter in the post box to see when it reaches the destination.  

We drive to Langza, a village sitting at the height of 4400 meters. The people there follow Tibetan Buddhism. Only 33 houses inhabited by 137 people live there. The Lang Temple, which is 1000 years old, is near this village only and you can walk the distance and visit the temple. Only here can you find a place engulfed by the Tethys Sea in the olden days, and you can see the fossils of Marine animals and plants that survived for millions of years. You will feel how this place would have been in those days and now made a visiting site.

For Lunch, we will drive down to Kaza. You can eat the momos, Thukpa, Tsampa, churpe, buckwheat chiltas and steamed dumplings which are famous Spiti valley foods. The choice is yours. Then we visit the Ki Monastery, 1000 years old and lies at 13668 feet. Our car will drop you at the entrance of the monastery hill. 

We can take photos of this architectural beauty founded by Brompton, a disciple of the famous teacher Atisha in the Eleventh century. This monastery belongs to the Yellow Hat or Gelugpa sect of Tibetan Buddhism. This is the place where the Tibetans visit for learning and also to take refuge because of its remote location.

From there, we have to start our journey uphill to reach the wonderful village of Kibber, which lies at 4205 meters and is 18 km from Kaza. Mountaineers choose this highest village as their beginning point for trekking adventure to the surrounding mountains. The enchanting view from this place keeps you mesmerized, makes you forget the world, and immerses you in the divine silence. This is ideal for meditation and photographers to get nature’s gifts. You can remind your family members that this is a lifetime chance we got to visit these places. 

From Kibber, you have to trek to Chicham Village, situated across a steep gorge. We can cross through a ‘Jula’, a suspended wire cable basket system. From there, we drive uphill to reach the remote village Gette to get the beautiful scenery around, and you can see Kaza also from the top. We may tie a prayer flag as done by others for peace around the world.

We return to Kaza in the evening and sleep with sweet dreams in the cozy hotel at Kaza.

Our third day of the Spiti Valley tour begins now. We start our journey to the beautiful Pin Valley. 

Our initial visit is to the Kungri Monastery, and from there, we proceed to the calm village of Mudh, up to which you can drive your car. This is the final road connecting the village of Pin Valley.

You can visit the National Park, where you find at least 12 endangered snow leopards. You can also see the red fox, Siberian ibex, bharal, weasel and marten. Birds like Golden eagle, pika, griffon, bearded vulture, chukar and Raven are perhaps the first time you will see them. A free-flowing river which remains frozen during winter becomes the eye-catcher and the Pin Valley, an ideal place for the trekkers. 

In the evening, we return to the warm and peaceful Kaza Hotel. Sleep with the sweet memories of Pin Valley, rivers and birds.

In the morning, have breakfast and a warm cup of tea and start the Spiti Valley tour towards the final town of Spiti Valley – Tabo. The other name for it is the Ajanta of Himalayas. You can find the 1020-year-old Tabo Monastery, one of the UNESCO world heritage sites, where you can find ancient paintings depicting the life of The Buddha and portraits of gods ad demons. You can find giant statues of bodhisattvas.

From Tabo, we drive to Dhankar. It is situated exactly near the confluence of the Spiti and Pin Rivers. Dhankar is a small village, the former capital of the Royals known as Nono of Spiti Valley, who were the rulers. Dhankar Gompa 

is a 1200-year-old Buddhist temple situated precariously at 3894 metres in height, and you need at least one hour to climb to reach there. You must have the courage and strength to go up; from there, you can see the beautiful view of Dhankar Lake and the twin peaks of Mane Rang (6593 metres).

From there, we drive to Lhalung, a small village. Lhalung means ‘land of God’, and the village lies at the base of the Tangmar Mountains, which is said to change colours based on the deities. If it becomes Red, you should know that the deities are angry and yellow means happy. You can find ancient Gompas in Lhalung village. Lhalung Monastery is also called Sarkhang, and the Golden temple is 3658 metres.

We will spend the night at the permissible local homestay with a village family who will tell the history of Spiti valley and their experience in this valley for all these years. Listen to them and sleep at an altitude of 12000 feet, enjoying every minute of your stay there.

Today is the beginning of our return journey. We stop at Chandratal Lake, which lies at 14100 feet in height. It has a moonlike structure and a mesmerizing beauty. You can see the Chandra Bhaga Mountain range behind the lake. After watching the colours of the Chandra Tal Lake, we drive to our camping site. Yes, we are going to camp near Chandra Tal Lake, where we will get camping equipment, tents, sleeping bags, blankets, and a mattress that will withstand the cold. After dinner, we sleep in the camp, watching the sky at a high altitude. It is a beautiful place to camp, and we will also remember this day in our lives and recommend it to others.

From Chandratal Lake, we drive back on the Kaza-Manali road; we pass through the Atal Tunnel and reach Manali. The drivers who were with us on the long journey left us, and we bid farewell to them. Now, you are on your own and visit the Manali markets, eat the special items of Manali and spend the night in the Manali Hotel, recalling the sweet memories of the journey.
